More of why I am not a Democrat any more

I'm heading home from the grocery store, listening to our new Air America - now the only thing worth listening to except for Mike Webb and Erin Hart on KIRO), and there's a newsclip about John McCain (the whore) in Albuquerque, pressing Democrat senator Jeff Bingaman to support the Bush Social Security private accounts plan...

Now I lived in ABQ for 3 years, and I know J.B. isn't the most liberal guy in the world, but for God's sake, he's a Democrat. But here's what he says...

I'll support the president's plan for private accounts, even though it won't help Social Security be more solvent, and in the end it will result in a reduction of benefits...

Can you believe that?!?

Why don't I just rephrase that, so we all understand exactly what he just said in layman's terms:

"This is a really fucked up plan, and it will hurt the American people, but I believe I can get behind it."

And that's why the Democrats will lose again and again. Case in point: They lost me this week.

Jason,
I am sorry to hear of your decision to resign as a PCO in the 38th LD in Everett. While I am well aware of the continuing frustrations of many, like myself, who have recently decided to try to work for change from the inside, it is even more frustrating to know that those who were standing beside you to accomplish that change are so easily and, in my opinion, prematurely prepared to throw in the towel.

Oh, to be sure, you are not alone in your decision and I would not conceive of attempting to change your mind. What I would say to you, however, is this. By taking your voice and your vote away, you have said to the rest of us who are making every good effort that we can to carry the fight for change forward that we now have one less vote to work with.

I lost a battle last night at the County because the votes were stacked against me. Some who had a vote simply did not appear and others who could sense that I did not have enough support simply went with the majority,as is the case most of the time.

I might join you on the sidelines in the not too distant future but, being as I have only been on the inside for a few months compared to the years this party has been drifting, I think I will hang in there a bit longer if for no other reason than, it is better to be a sound heard off in the distance than to make no sound at all.

Just my opinion my friend. I hope that we will still have the privledge of your voice in this forum for some time to come.

Ok guys, I know there are some scummy "Democrats" out there, just as there are in every walk of life. Time to go read what Billmon said when he "quit blogging" (he's back). It is really well done and reveals a lot about how we feel when things like that happen.
