Drinking Liberally Comes to Snohomish County

On Thursday, April 13th, Drinking Liberally came to Monroe. 39th LD Chair, Steve Galea, tells me that he has taken on the pleasant task of hosting the monthly get-togethers where more “progressive-leaning folks” share a few brews (or their drink of choice) and conversation about the issues and news makers of the day. Drinking Liberally began in New York in 2003 and there are now over 138 chapters around the country. In Washington State, there are chapters in Bellingham, Olympia, Seattle, Tacoma, Burien, Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Walla Walla. The Monroe Chapter will be the first in Snohomish County.

While I have not attended any of the Seattle meetings, I do keep up with their activities on the various Blogs that write about the visitors and discussions that ensue at the events. The visitors to the Seattle events have included the likes of Jay Inslee, Dwight Pelz, Ron Sims, and Darcy Burner (candidate for Congress in the 8th CD) to name but a few. Steve is hoping to attract some of our local dignitaries such as Aaron Reardon and Mark Hintz to share some of their insight (or just be there to pick up the tab).

The Monroe Chapter of Drinking Liberally will meet on the second Thursday of each month at Eddie’s Trackside Bar & Grill , 214 N. Lewis Street, Monroe beginning at 7:00PM. Next month’s (May) will be on the 11th. I am making plans to attend and I encourage you all to do the same. For more information, contact Steve Galea at: asgalea@gte.net.

Peace,
Chad (The Left) Shue
