Is that all you can say - peace - come on, what a tragic waste of life for a cause that has got nothing at all to do with me, you or any other urbanite. It is Bush's & Blairs war - perhaps they will both stand trial for it one day.
I have a nephew in Basra at the moment. god forbid but if anything happened to him i wouldn't want his name blogged by someone who just says PEACE...think about it!
pugwash,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment here. I appreciate your sentiment. I must say, however, I have also been critcised by people whose loved one is listed as a casualty on my blog because by closing with the word Peace I have somehow shown myself to be anti-military and have demeaned their loved one.
I will answer you in the same way I do them. If you read many of the entries at The Left Shue, you will find that I do have a strong opinion about the invasion and ongoing occupation of Iraq as well as the people who led us there.
However, when I decided to honor these fallen Americans (and at least make an effort to count the dead Iraqis) I made a conscious choice to post the numbers and names with no editorial comment. The inclusion of the word Peace is simply my standard closing on every post I write as well as every email I send.
Finally, I pray that your nephew returns to you safely.
Peace,
Chad (The Left) Shue
