Attack the Messenger - No, Wait! I Think He's On Our Side...

Just in case there is any question as to why it is a bad thing for Democrats to “repudiate” and “condemn” an ad from MoveOn.org that simply provided factual information about Gen. Petraeus and his cherry picking of the information he was about to spoon-feed Congress, watch the following ad:

By joining with the Republicans to “repudiate” MoveOn.org, the Democrats may possibly have played right into the Republican strategy to marginalize one of the most effective allies the Democrats have had for the past six years. Or maybe this is just another piece of the strategy to improve their standing with the American people and increase their majority in 2008……….

Or maybe it's a big fundraising ploy by MoveOn! Oh, wait, no. I forgot. MoveOn is absolutely perfect and entitled to lobby and advocate whenever they want. Only corporations that turn a profit aren't allowed to do that. My bad...

Chantel,

And just why would they be raising money? Are you going to tell me now that MoveOn has not contributed in any way to the current Democratic majority? What an absurd argument!

I see this ad only attacking Republicans. Do you disagree with the content or just the messenger because they tend to not favor DLC candidates?

Beating Republicans is the goal, not beating the DLC. MoveOn's actions did not help beat Republicans. It was a rock-throwing advert that attacked a commander in the field and did not help the Democratic party one little iota.

Chantel,

Multi-task please.....I am referring to the ad in this post - the one that is targeting Mitch McConnel and the Republicans

Now if you want to keep on the MoveOn "Betray us" ad - the "rocks" that you say they are throwing are facts backed up by independent organizations such as the GAO. Even the Pentagon has released casualty numbers that dispute Petaeus's numbers.

The FACT that Petraeus has been declaring "progress is being made" since 2004 doesn't bother you? Being "at war with the facts" is not the same as lying - but that is what I would have said if I could have afforded the ad.

Fine. I thought it a given that we agree on the McConnel ad. Just because the messenger agrees most of the time does not make every message appropriate.
