Chad, As a New Mexican (now, still a native Washingtonian), I have to disagree with you on Richardson. He is a corporate tool. He is in bed with private insurance companies, which is why we can't get the single payer Health Security Act passed down here in NM, even though it is the only plan for reform that covers everyone and costs substanitally less ($300 mil/yr less) than any of the other proposals. Richardson has recently presented his Health Solutions plan for healthcare and it continues to give the dominant role in healthcare to private insurance companies. He is going to be on Stephanie Miller tomorrow am, and I plan to call in and dog him on health care.
I'm glad he is for immediate withdrawal from Iraq, but there's a lot of baggage in other areas. New Mexicdo is a very corrupt state, and it's not just the Republicans.
I appreciate your opinion very much. I know you are sincere in your beliefs and that you put actions behind your words. That is why I am hoping that you do well in your race for Congress. We surely need you there.
As far as Richardson's healthcare position, I view it in a similar vein as I did Howard Dean's. While he may not have the best plan (maybe even not close to the best plan) I do not believe he would stand in the way of a single payer plan IF one could come out of the congress.
I just view his experience and knowledge of the issues to be critical to what the country nedds today. I trust his abililty to end the foreign policy mess that Bush and the DLC Dems have gotten us into and believe that he has the right energy credentials to make real change quickly.
A good many of my friends are still supporting Dennis Kucinich and I wish that I could (I will certainly support him if he wins the nomination) BUT I keep looking and, even though he stands for the right things and even sponsors the bills, I don't see any track record of ACCOMPLISHING anything. Leadership means you should be able to get things done.
One of the most disconcerting things I have heard from Dennis is, when he was asked how he would end NAFTA and the WTO, he said he would do it by executive order. Well, the guy that's in charge today rules by executive order.
In a representative Democracy, we need leaders who lead - not dictate; which is what I think of rule by executive order.
I think Richardson (Four Time Nobel Peace Prize Nominee) has a record of accomplishment and a proven ability to lead. He is far from perfect but, of the current crop, he is my choice.
