Vacation - Day One

Laws unpassed, Iraqi parliament calls summer break

”BAGHDAD, July 30 (Reuters) - Iraq's parliament adjourned for its summer recess on Monday, taking a break until September despite having failed to enact a series of laws demanded by Washington.
Parliamentary speaker Mahmoud Mashhadani said in a statement issued after Monday's session that he had dismissed lawmakers until Sept. 4.
"Parliament has decided to break until early September," Hussein Falluji of the mainly Sunni Accordance Front bloc in parliament told Reuters.
"We have already cut the holiday by one month. It is our constitutional right to take it."
The recess means parliament will resume just before U.S. military commander General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker are due to report back to Congress on the success of this year's "surge" in U.S. troops to Iraq.
A preliminary White House assessment earlier this month faulted Iraqi leaders for failing to enact laws aimed at curbing violence, including measures to distribute oil revenue, hold provincial elections and loosen restrictions on members of Saddam Hussein's Baath party returning to public life.”

Maybe they'll drop us a postcard:

"Glad we're not here."

VACATION WATCH

In May I posted here about the Iraqi Parliament scheduling a TWO MONTH VACATION while our troops would still be dying on their sand. Since then some good news has emerged. It appears that the lawmakers have decided to limit their summer break to just ONE MONTH. When asked about this recently, Bush propagandist, Tony Snow(job) said, ”"My understanding is at this juncture they're going to take August off…” "You know, it's 130 degrees in Baghdad in August.” - Yeah, nothing like those air conditioned Humvees.

VACATION WATCH

I have an idea. Let’s start a vacation watch. We can draw up a chart that will count off the number of vacation days taken by the Iraqi Parliament, the US Congress, George W. Bush, and OUR TROOPS. While we’re at it, we can count the number of casualties that occur during those vacation days. I will post the numbers right here on The Left Shue – maybe as part of the IWR News.

Stay Tuned………

Hello from Ozy!

Hi everyone!

I want to thank Chad Shue for inviting me to contribute to The Left Shue.

I have been the owner/operator/builder/chief cook and bottle washer of a few websites since 2002.

My main site is actually designed as a local start page for Whatcom County.

http://mainstreampolitics.com/

I do not have a blog or editorials on my page because I feel op-ed sites/ message boards and blogs need a great deal of individual attention.

I have always admired The Left Shue and Chad for honesty, accuracy, inteligence and commitment.

One of the things which Chad contributes that inspires me is his IRW News and US Military Casualties listing.

To see these statistics being posted and to acknowledge the sacrifice of our military men and women makes me honored to be a contributor on this wonderfully insightful blog and platform for truth, education and insight.

I sincerely hope that I can offer posts, which are even close to the heartfelt and thoughtfully written ones here at The Left Shue.

Thank You

Rick Lafave aka Ozymandias_k

The following post is my first offering to The Left Shue.

ENOUGH IS MORE THAN AMERICA CAN STAND!

TIMES UP!

Personally I Like Congressman Conyers and Speaker Pelosi but I think we have had it!

“LEADERSHIP”

Democrats can spew the talking points all day long about not having the votes in the Senate or the House to impeach but the truth is that it makes no difference. The public wants these crimes indicted now! If they call for impeachment and fail, they will have at least done the right thing and stop being complicit in their responsibility!!

Our party is getting slammed everyday and the moderates in the party are helping tear us apart! We are being painted as wimps and cowards or do-nothing liberals.

“UNFAIR”

The ratings for Congress are in the low twenty’s from where they were right after the last election. The corporate owned news propaganda machine has been going full blast attacking the character of the party! We are falling into the Rovian trap!!! It's time the moderates and so called centrist or conservative democrats wake up and realize they better unite with the progressives or the party will lose what it has gained in the last election.

“EMBARRASSING”

The neo-conservatives are just licking their chops at the way the democrats are being depicted.

“ELECTION FRAUD”

Don't fool yourself. We are losing ground around the country. I keep hearing how democrats are re-registering as independents everyday. They say they have had it with the lack of leadership in the party. I don’t agree with this strategy but it will take its toll with the republican black box fraud machine out there.

“NAÏVE”

If these current candidates and incumbents are counting on the voters to pick the lesser of two evils come election time, they need to rethink their naiveté’.

Things are getting so bad and the Bush Administration has broken so many laws people are not going to stand for the status quo any more! I think they are going to be naïve in thinking they are going to have anything like a sure win. People are getting angrier every single day! They are getting sick of the debate distractions and speculations.

“PATHETIC”

I think the public likens this political positioning to be of no more worth than knowing Lindsay Lohan is back in jail or Anna Nicole is still dead!

People are dying daily on our boarders, in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in our streets!

We can’t even keep our children safe from the molesters and murderers in this country.

“CRIMINAL”

We have a healthcare crisis.

Jobs and company’s are being bought off and exported daily!

The Administration is having private meetings selling off public land.

They are changing environmental laws so corporations can strip mine the planet anywhere they want.

The oligarchy is playing games with the stock market which is on the verge of crashing every other day.

These people have violated their oath of office with every signing statement they make.

When our congressional representatives don’t go after these crimes, they are in contempt of their oaths and should be dealt with summarily!

We have an Attorney General who lies under oath and doesn’t suffer the consequences!!!!

There is no justice or respect for the law in our country with these crooks in control!

“BS”

They are trying to give us this “We don’t have the votes”.

READ MY LIPS!

I DON’T CARE IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY VOTES FROM THESE CONGRESIONAL REPRESENTATIVES WHO HAVE FAILED TO PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.

Frankly, every last one of them who authorized this maniac to invade Iraq should be IMPEACHED, FIRED, OR RE-CALLED FOR NOT KEEPING THEIR OATH OF OFFICE!

“DISGRACEFUL”

Our democratic reps are acting like Oliver Twist sheepishly walking up to the front of the porridge line and asking “May I have some more sir.” DISGRACEFUL!!!!!

As far as Cindy Sheehan running against Nancy Pelosi; I say GO FOR IT! It seems to me it’s time for some heads to roll in the lackluster leadership of our party!!!

“UNACCEPTABLE”

I like speaker Pelosi but if Ms. Sheehan goes after her seat because the congresswoman refuses to put impeachment back on the table, that’s just too damn bad!

SHEEHAN WINS, THE TROOPS WIN!

I think just running against speaker Pelosi will send a extraordinarily loud message to the congress! You better knock off the softballs and start playing rough immediately or else!

“BRAVO”

“To Cindy Sheehan and her supporters!!!! I would go so far as to say I will fund raise and offer a great deal of time to her campaign before I would ever lift a finger for this guy we have in the 2nd congressional! “

Lastly, I would like make a prediction.

Our Democratic Candidate for president will be

HILLARY CLINTON!

Not because she may be the most qualified.

Not because she is the choice of the majority of the American voters.

Not because she is a woman.

Not because she is the smartest person in the race.

Not because she is Bill’s wife!

Not because she is the best person overall for the job!

BUT

BECAUSE THE CORPORATE LOBBYISTS, SPECIAL INTERESTS, THE DLC, WALL STREET, PHARMACETICAL INDUSTRY, INSURANCE INDUSTRY, THE STATES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, AND GOD

ARE GOING TO RAM HER DOWN OUR THROATS IN THE PRIMARY!

Oh, I left out one of the biggest entities who has been ramming her down our throats already.

Anyone want to guess?

Scroll down to see. You may be surprised.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

THE REPBLICAN PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COURTESY OF ROVE AND COMPANY !

“NO CONSPIRACY UNDER HERE.”

“NO CONSPIRACY OVER THERE.”

“NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION UNDER HERE”

“NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION OVER THERE.”

THINK ABOUT IT!

SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY FROM DEVASTATION.

TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF WASHINGTON!

PUBLIC FINANCING OF ALL ELECTIONS AND REMOVE ALL CORPORATE LOBBYISTS.

YOU MIGHT GET BACK THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA INSTEAD OF THESE CORPORATE OWNED ADMINISTRATIONS AND REPRESENTATIVES.

"...and now for something completely different"

For those who may have missed it; from Britain’s “Guardian”:

Cheney pushes Bush to act on Iran

Ewen MacAskill in Washington and Julian Borger

Monday July 16, 2007
The Guardian

”The balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has shifted back in favour of military action before President George Bush leaves office in 18 months, the Guardian has learned.

The shift follows an internal review involving the White House, the Pentagon and the state department over the last month. Although the Bush administration is in deep trouble over Iraq, it remains focused on Iran. A well-placed source in Washington said: "Bush is not going to leave office with Iran still in limbo."

The White House claims that Iran, whose influence in the Middle East has increased significantly over the last six years, is intent on building a nuclear weapon and is arming insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
(The rest of the story may be found here)

Meanwhile, with Bush and Cheney claiming that Iran is the source of all evil in Iraq and the Middle East, comes this from the LA Times:

Saudis' role in Iraq insurgency outlined -

Sunni extremists from Saudi Arabia make up half the foreign fighters in Iraq, many suicide bombers, a U.S. official says.

By Ned Parker, Times Staff Writer
July 15, 2007

” BAGHDAD — Although Bush administration officials have frequently lashed out at Syria and Iran, accusing it of helping insurgents and militias here, the largest number of foreign fighters and suicide bombers in Iraq come from a third neighbor, Saudi Arabia, according to a senior U.S. military officer and Iraqi lawmakers.

About 45% of all foreign militants targeting U.S. troops and Iraqi civilians and security forces are from Saudi Arabia; 15% are from Syria and Lebanon; and 10% are from North Africa, according to official U.S. military figures made available to The Times by the senior officer. Nearly half of the 135 foreigners in U.S. detention facilities in Iraq are Saudis, he said

Fighters from Saudi Arabia are thought to have carried out more suicide bombings than those of any other nationality, said the senior U.S. officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the subject's sensitivity. It is apparently the first time a U.S. official has given such a breakdown on the role played by Saudi nationals in Iraq's Sunni Arab insurgency.

He said 50% of all Saudi fighters in Iraq come here as suicide bombers. In the last six months, such bombings have killed or injured 4,000 Iraqis.

The situation has left the U.S. military in the awkward position of battling an enemy whose top source of foreign fighters is a key ally that at best has not been able to prevent its citizens from undertaking bloody attacks in Iraq, and at worst shares complicity in sending extremists to commit attacks against U.S. forces, Iraqi civilians and the Shiite-led government in Baghdad.”
(The rest of this story may be found here)

Let’s see – Saudi’s fly into the World Trade Center, Osama bin Laden is a Saudi, the majority of outside fighters in Iraq are from Saudi Arabia – and W (and Cheney, and McCain, and LIEberman) says, “Bomb Iran.” Oh yeah, and the Democrats say, don’t worry, he only has 18 months left. Duh!

Out of the Mouth of Babes....

In the "Winning Hearts and Minds" category, comes this story from the McClatchy Newspapers :

Even babies quickly learn to duck snipers in Iraq

McClatchy Newspapers | Posted: Saturday, July 14, 2007 ; Updated: 7:17 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2007

"BAGHDAD -- Nawal Na'eem Karim was surprised last week to hear her toddler tell her, "Talaq inana! Talaq inana!" -- "Bullets here! Bullets here!"

He was warning her to step cautiously past the windows. Their house is in a kill zone. At 18 months, her baby already had learned counterinsurgency survival. He still wears a diaper.
Karim's family is among hundreds in Baghdad's Shiite Muslim-dominated Amil neighborhood who are under siege in their homes; in this case from two local snipers, one apparently stationed in a minaret of a nearby Sunni Muslim mosque."

At this rate he will have mastered the phrase "Kill the American Infidel" by the time he is 5 - if he lives that long.

George W Bush - The Neener Neener Man

In the latest case of George Bush’s complete disrespect for the rule of law, the United States Constitution, and the US Congress:

Bush Admits White House CIA Leak

Wall Street Journal

July 12, 2007

WASHINGTON -- President Bush acknowledged publicly for the first time Thursday that someone in his administration "perhaps" leaked the name of a CIA operative, although he also said he hopes the controversy over his decision to spare prison for a former White House aide has "run its course." "And now we're going to move on," Mr. Bush said in a White House news conference.

Not unlike Bush’s admission that, indeed he had ordered the illegal wiretapping of American citizens (in violation of the FISA), Bush’s assertion here is simply, ‘So what?!”

"I'm aware of the fact that perhaps somebody in the administration did disclose the name of that person (Valerie Plame)," Mr. Bush said. "I've often thought about what would have happened if that person had come forth and said, 'I did it.' Would we have had this endless hours of investigation and a lot of money being spent on this matter? But, so, it's been a tough issue for a lot of people in the White House. It's run its course and now we're going to move on."

Of course that FACT that MS Plame was a COVERT CIA agent at the time her name was released in an effort to discredit her husband, former ambassador Joe Wilson, seems to be an insignificant matter to the son of the president who said, ”I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious of traitors.” [Speech at CIA, 4/26/99]

The first President Bush believed that Richard Welch, a CIA officer in Greece, was killed because (former CIA agent Peter) Agee blew his cover. (The agent, Philip Agee, blew the cover of hundreds of CIA operatives in a 1975 book, “Inside the Company: CIA Diary”) So as CIA director, and from 1981 as vice president, Bush campaigned to make naming names illegal.
That law — the Intelligence Identity Protection Act — was passed in 1982.
Since then, any government official with access to classified information who discloses the identity of a covert agent without authorization is subject to 10 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.

Several Bush administration officials revealed Ms. Plame's identity. White House political adviser Karl Rove and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage were the primary sources for a 2003 newspaper article outing Ms. Plame. Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer also admitted telling reporters about her. And jurors apparently believed prosecutors who said Mr. Libby discussed Ms. Plame with reporters from the New York Times and Time magazine. Mr. Libby was the only one charged in the matter.

Of course, for George W. Bush, being charged or even convicted of such an offense is such a trivial matter that, we should just simply, ”…move on.” which this Congress and this country seem quite willing to do………
