The Observer

It’s not often that one blogger takes the time or the space to sing the praises of another but that is what this post is about. Recently, I have been totally blown away by the combination of literary talent and insightful commentary that is ”The Observer” I am also embarrassed to say that it has taken me far too long to stumble upon its existence.

Dave Aldrich

The Observer is the product of Dave Aldrich (currently a Commissioner on Board of the Snohomish County PUD) and has been around the county in one form or another since 1994. From the author:

”The Observer began publication in 1994 as a printed monthly tabloid, reaching an initial list of over 5,000 people, mostly Snohomish County residents. Thereafter, only five percent subscribed; the Observer accepted no advertising. It ceased operations in early 1995, but was resumed—as a much smaller magazine—in 1999. Upon election to public office, the publisher discontinued the written Observer in January 2003…”

In addition to the current writings from Dave’s Progressive perspective, he also provides an archive of .pdf’s of his previously printed work. “The Observer” brings posts on current affairs as well as an offering on the issues of local governance and Dave’s particular pre-occupation with issues of energy use (Aldrich is the county’s strongest advocate for energy conservation and will talk to anyone; anytime on the subject.)

I first met Dave when he came to a meeting of Democracy for Snohomish County one night in 2006 to give us a Power Point presentation on Energy Conservation and his vision of where he thought energy use in the county might be in the coming years. His views on renewable energy and conservation were refreshing to hear from a public official in Snohomish County back then and he is a respected leader on the subject today. Since then, we have exchanged emails on a variety of subjects in addition to energy issues. It wasn’t until around a month or so ago that he sent me a link to The Observer and I have been hooked ever since.

Click on the link (appropriately) to your left and enjoy “The Observer.” Then drop Dave a line and let him know you are a new reader.

Peace,
Chad (The Left) Shue
